Beatnik City – Northern Beats Vol 1

When posting music here on the ward, we generally use the term ‘old skool’ for music that has a ring of the early 90’s about it. Beatnik City, however, are a label that’s far more old skool than that. Rock n’ Roll, Norther Soul, Motown, Blues, Beat, Mod, Rhythm & Blues and Bossa, is what these guys are all about, the hip-shaking sounds of the 60’s! That is only half of the story though, as they take many classics from that era and then get some of the brightest talent of today to remix, edit and mashup into future classics of their own. These tracks are then compiled on to an album for us to go buy and enjoy forever and there’s no doubting you will.

For their latest album ‘Northern Beats Vol.1’ (which is just as mind blowingly brilliant as the others gone before) they focus their attentions on, Northern Soul and Motown. Nine instantly recognizable classics have been given very respectful and very amazing reworkings from a small and highly skilled collective of present day beat-makers. It’s an album that will have you hook, line and sinker, from the first beat to the last, accompanied by the biggest of smiles and the warmest of glows. Keep the faith ladies and gents!

: I'm Sid, a dude from Lincolnshire. I'll be bringing you music from the perspective of the dance floor, the place I love to be most! I've no production or DJ experience, but I do know a bloody good tune when I hear one and if I connect with it, I'll share it in the hope you connect with it to. Selection and connection is the name of the game.
