Dj XS has been working flat out for some time now making sure a steady stream of the funkiest mixes keep rolling out on his Funky Vibes YouTube page from himself and a host of guest mixes from some his favourite artists from all around the globe. Behind the scenes of all that though, he has been working on this outstanding ‘Rap Nuggets’ EP along with a couple of his friends, JSquared and Ross Go.
With a strong Hip Hop theme running throughout the EP, it’s JSquared who steps up first with a smooth and summery Nu Disco remix of De La Soul‘s ‘Stakes Is High’, which is followed by the first of two tracks from Dj XS as he puts a cool and classic spin on Jurassic 5‘s ‘Gotta Understand’. Next up is Ross Go, a new name to us here at LSM and he’s definitely a producer whose music we’ll be checking out further, simply because of his mind-blowingly funky fusion of Louis Armstrong and Eric B & Rakim! It pips it as track of the EP for me! Rounding up what is clearly an excellent EP is Dj XS with his second edit, a downtempo, sunny Sunday afternoon take on Artifacts ‘C’mon Wit Da Git Down’. Hip Hop head nodders unite!
