DJ Jedi’s Cantina Cuts label reaches release No6 with 4 gorgeous atmospheric jungle from DUG
We had to include the really cool sleeve art for DUG’s ‘Insight EP’, a great addition to a frankly stunning 4 track release. It’s not unfair nor overblown to draw comparison to Nookie and the melodic strand of Jungle associated with Nookie.
‘Moments In Time’ takes time to create a lush, spacial aura with beautiful strings and enigmatic spoken word samples. Things take a positive twist with mystical shots of synth and airy FX over airtight amens.
‘Waiting Game’ contrasts soothing, mysterious chords with rugged beats and powerful subs. The central riff will bring classics like ‘Champion Sound’ to mind. DUG captures that late 93 Darkside Jungle vibe with a time capsule of a tune that would have been a staple of Grooverider’s record box back in 93.
‘Token’ is a love letter to 93/94 Ruffige Kru without ever being unoriginal. Elements of ‘Terminator’ and ‘Dark Angel’ mingle with heavy think breaks and the sound of creepy horror.
Keen ears may pick up on a hidden meaning behind the title of ‘Formal’, a track that takes on the fine form of a Formation Recs release at the height of the Darkcore era. The Funky Drummer marches an ominous march of terror inducing sounds from the darkest corners of the Rave. From beautifully crafted Jungle to deliciously dark Hardcore. Rave music every bit as good as the oldskool.
