Funkin’ Basstards – Return of the orignals E.P (BBP)

Having already released a remix on Breakbeat Paradise Recordings for its ‘Power Hour’ radio show just over a year ago, Funkin’ Basstards return to the imprint in great form with 4 new and original tracks on their ‘Return of the originals’ EP.

Our starting point sees the Greek duo team up with one of our favourite vocalists Mustafa Akbar on ‘Fever To Flava’. There’s always a party going on in your mind when Mustafa’s vocal connects with it and when you add in the tight funky groove the Funkin’ Basstards have laid down, you’ve got a certified dancefloor weapon on your hands. L.A based MC EVeryman steps up next on the first of two tracks he’s featured on, the Swing influenced ‘Swing It Or Leave It’. His distinct lyrical flow is matched with classic broken beats, a touch of Citar and that infamous sax sample in a constantly evolving piece of magic.

EVeryman’s second outing on Funkin’ Basstards EP comes on the third track ‘Delight Smokers’. This one will really get those 70’s Funk juices flowing with retro keys and bass guitar on a Funky Breaks jam that comes with a nu-skool Hip Hop twist thanks to EVeryman’s on point delivery once again. The title track of the EP completes our journey and it’s Greek MC DnC that features on this 90’s boom bap flavoured track that’ll take you straight back to the old skool days! Those Funkin’ Basstards, they’ve got it goin’ on!

I've no production or DJ experience, but I do know a bloody good tune when I hear one and if I connect with it, I'll share it in the hope you connect with it to. Selection and connection is the name of the game.
