Future Funk Squad – Darker Days [Remix Album]

The breakbeat fans and DJs album of the decade has finally dropped!

This bundle packs a punch with 15+ jaw dropping remixes from scene heroes past and present. This really is a breaks, beats and bass lovers paradise and below we’ve a rundown of each of the mixes you’re likely to hear at the breaks raves for years to come.

The bundle is available to buy from Future Funk Squad’s bandcamp website now and in all good digital download stores very soon… You can also get your hands on a limited run of 12″ vinyls of the remixes! More info on that, here.

But what of the mixes??

1. The Hunted (Blazer Remix)

Nice opening track from Blazer – its tight and funky drums, gentle peaks and guitar driven electro-bass roll along nicely making a perfect drop mid set, sure to keep the people grooving from A to B.

2. Rattlesnake (Yreane’s ‘Pain’ Remix)

Taking it up a notch, Yreane hit it hard with all fours on the floor. This a tribal sounding main room, heads down groover that’ll keep the floor brimming with energy.

3. Rat Race (Kid Digital Remix)

Time to get diiiirty with Kid Digitals Rat Race remix – Techy edits, tearout bass and crowd stirring hip-hop vibes are the order of the day here and it’s a belter.

4. Tactics (BETA Remix)

BETA bring a classy vibe to the table with his remix. Starts with a range of wicky-wacky synth action, busy hi hats and a “Dooms Night” trumpy bassline, then drops into an all-out squelchy bassline monster. Nice.

5. Darker Days (Hyper Remix)

What a reunion! Been a while since hearing anything with the infamous Hyper brand on it and what a welcome return. Hyper does not mess about on this remix. A long build up switches unexpectedly into a balls-to-the-walls horrorshow of filthy guitar riffs and pounding beats. This is brutal.

6. Nine Errors (Mr No Hands Remix)

Err… can’t really review my own tune now… but it sounds like this:

… and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it… Boom.

7. Monologue (Lee Coombs & Kostas G Remix)

Lee Coombs & Kostas G get it back on the funky tip with their remix. Uber-bouncy beats and a borderline acid vibe compliment the atmospheric synth sounds of the original perfectly. This is one groovy f**cker and clubland sure player. Love it.

8. Soundwaves (Sketi’s ‘Drums of War’ Remix)

This is an instantly excitable number. The stabby build up work perfectly and the drop into the abyss of weird and wonderful beats and bass is a rreeeeal treat. Top work Sketi!

9. Cold Matter (Lawgiverz Remix)

Another rare delight and total treat – LAWGIVERZ RETURN! This is a deep and dark trapdoor of a warehouse rave anthem. Tunnelling beats, haunting vibes and echoing bass, suddenly trips out and goes ultra tight and glitchy. Totally rare sounding, utterly unique and unforgettable. This is very special indeed.

10. Disease (Eshericks Remix)

Eshericks changes the tone completely – this is as Euro as Breaks get – total party hands in the air vibes on this cut. Happy happy joy joy happy happy joy joy… This one certainly lightens the mood and is sure to get the crowd jumping jumping jumping.

11. Past Tense (Future Funk Squad’s ‘AcidMash’ Remix)

FFS gets busy with the fizzy, remixing their own tune to add yet more class  to proceedings. This is a downtempo moody reenactment of the highest order – pushing the drums in the mix to get the extra weighty omphhh out the speakers and get those feet moving. Banging.

12. The Colony (Evil Nine Remix)

Another breaks heavyweight enters the fray and delivers a trademark bass music belter. This bad-bwoy would not sound out of place in a Bassbin Twins DJs set – jangly jungle tambs and otherwise sparse groove allowing that sub to take prominence in the mix. This is a huge, sub-bleeding tune.

13. Tactics (BreaksMafia Remix)

BreaksMafia! This is a funky, cheeky-monkey and then some. Steppy grooves and bubbling bouncy bass bumble along nicely together and will take the crowd along for the journey nicely.

14. Cold Matter (Switchshift Remix)

Finally, we have Switchshift on the mix – on this fun and upbeat little doozie what’s got a kinda Finger Lickin’ vibe. Very chirpy and easy to drop to any happy-go-lucky festival crowd.

That’s not all! Check out the other remixes from Mekon, Chris Carter, Virus 19xx & Placenta… enjoy!
