Hot Digits Music – Year Five (V/A)

Hot Digits Music has celebrated its birthdays every year in spectacular style with a Disco compilation album comprised only of exclusive material and as it celebrates its fifth birthday ‘Year Five’ is this year’s bountiful offering. A whopping 32 tracks makeup ‘Year Five’ and it includes re-edits, reworks and originals from many of the big-hitters of the current Disco revolution and a handful of newcomers and rising stars in the scene.

With so much music to be found, you’d probably expect there to be a little something for everyone and if that’s your line of thinking, you’re bang on the money! The quartet of tracks to open the album are of the more downtempo variety as Old Chap greets us with his sweet and candied ‘Hey Mister’ and Peza follows with his low-slung and sleazy ‘I Gotta Little Love’. Next in line is Shit Hot Soundsystem‘s gutsy Indie influenced rocker ‘Sweetest Feeling’, with Ruff Diamond bringing tons funk and groove to his tune ‘Get Higher Baby’.

Drawn in by those opening beauties, the next bunch of tracks are the type that are perfect for those on the hunt for warm-up tunes for their Disco sets or party playlists. A few of those that we’re diggin’ include Limpodisco‘s deep acid bubbler ‘Rush Hour’, Picklejam‘s trippy ‘The Effect Of Cosmic Rays’, LUP INO‘s dazzling and brassy ‘You Stop Fooling’, Andy Buchan‘s mysterious and cosmic ‘Ignition’ and label boss Fingerman‘s upbeat groover ‘Family Ties’.

Taking things up another couple of gears comes a selection of certified dancefloor weapons. A few of those that stand out for us include Lego Edit‘s sizzler ‘Dance Girl’, Chewy Rubs & North Laine‘s all guns blazing ‘Let Your Body Glow’, Rayko‘s red hot Afro-infused ‘Tribaldome’ and Massey & Reeta‘s piano House anthem ‘Feel The Rhythm’.

While that’s our picks of the bunch, with so much quality music to choose from, there’s every chance that the tracks we haven’t mentioned could very well end up being favourites of your own and the only way to find that out is to dive head first into the glittery pool of Disco on ‘Year Five’.
