igloo two – semdr : remixed (Growroom Productions)

igloo two are a multi-skilled duo from Washington DC, whose sound is very much at the laidback end of the music spectrum. Experimenting with live instruments, drum machines, synths, and effects, they take the listener to faraway sonic landscapes with their enchanted melodic themes. If you’re after music to help relieve you of your woes, igloo two have all that you require.

Back in September of 2018, the guys released their second full-length album ‘silver eyes meets doctor robot’ on Growroom Records, which featured 14 tracks of their lush, easy-going sound. It wasn’t too long after the release of that album that they set about identifying and then inviting a select team of producers from around the globe to feature on their September 2019 release ‘silver eyes meets doctor robot : remixed’. On this new album, you’ll find 13 tracks that are made up of 10 remixes of tracks off ‘semdr’ and 3 remixes from their debut album titled ‘ep’.

When it comes to the music on ‘semdr : remixed’ an eclectic range of sounds that takes us from Trip Hop to Drum n Bass, with Funky Breaks and House in between can be heard and makes for a very entertaining listen for any lover of good music. A few of the producers have kept their remixes in the downtempo ballpark such as UK’s Daytoner, who brings a sublime hazy groove to ‘between sleeping people’, Washington DC’s Astronaut Jones whose remix of ‘robot md’ is truly hypntoic in every sense and Hungarian Savages y Suefo pulls out a bluesy Trip Hop remix of ‘earthier substance’ that is quite simply, soul food.

The first of two House remixes comes from Orlando’s Stereo 77 and he takes things on a cosmic early hours vibe in his remix of ‘lazy daze’. The second 4/4 led remix comes from DC-based Ozker who takes on ‘static shuffle’ and recreates it as deep and divine dancefloor groover. Australian duo Frankee More and Pecoe can be found ramping things up even further. Frankee remixes ‘stuck in transit’ with an extra solid Nu-Disco tinged feel while Pecoe slam dunks the funk as always with a party-friendly Breaks remix of ‘silver eyes theme’.

Again form the fruitful lands of Washington DC comes Ornette Hawkins & Kalu, who deliver the first of two Drum and Bass remixes with a sophisticated and energetic spin on ‘just green’. Barcelona’s Los Chicos Altos’ DnB remix of ‘big eco scene’ feels very much like it was created on a hot Spanish summers day with its cool swinging vibe to tame the heat. The rest of the stunning remixes that make up ‘semdr : remixed’ come from igloo two themselves, plus FADE, Quincy Jointz and Boogie.
