Pzg & Dubsknit bring the hoovers, pianos and hyperspeed breakbeat fire on new LP ‘We Rob Rave 3’
Ukrainian imprint, Suck Puck Recordz presents ‘We Rob Rave 3’, the third installment of this hybrid Footwork/Jungle/Breakbeat LP featuring samples from classive 90s rave tunes.
‘Cast A Spell’ works the much loved R&B vocal around a bed of manic hardcore rave stabs and energy laced piano euphoria. ‘So Real So Real’ blends 91 euro rave with a fast and furious bumping 808 with bouncing 4×4 kicks. ‘I’m A Hardcore Android’ kicks hard with banging kickdrums and laser like halftime beats. Hoover riffs parlay with landlord style keys and gunshot bass booms.
We go turbo speed techno with ‘In My Mind’ where the kicks beat hard and frantic, beating to the sound of a looping Detroit style hook with jungle break interludes. ‘LFOs For Hoes’ pays homage to a certain warehouse classic, giving it a skanking re-imagining complete with rolling breaks and cool key change style synth patterns.
‘Moovin’ Hardcore’ busts out the Korg M1s and oldskool 91/92 samples for a heavyweight stepper that will send dancefloors wild!!! For extra messiness, wait for the final section where a gut bursting Reese bass kicks in with amen breaks to match!!! The hard amen assault continues on ‘Allright (Raggamortis Remix)’, a menacing slice of spliced up amen footwork hardcore!!
‘Awfully Deeply’ will burn holes in your speaker with the deepest of deep subs, bombastic ghetto bass beats and bouncing breaks, all with a liberal dose of anthemic piano. More Landlord riff, Euro rave inspired action can be found on ‘Capella’, a track that alternates between optimistic sounds and skin peeling techno synths.
‘Shockwaver’ introduces some gnarly mentasm business into the equation with sliced and diced breakage and ‘a mother of all basslines’ bassline!!! ‘New Dream Direction’ goes the route of 1993 Jungle Tekno with a side injection of 2019 bass n’ breaks.
Next is a revisit to an FPI Project classic in ‘Trouble Roots’, a rudeboy jungle revibe of the Italo piano anthem. ‘Lets Be 6’ follows on from ‘Lets Be 3’, a track from the previous album. Lovers of the Kniteforce musical style will lap up this combo of euphoric keys, upbeat vocals and Belgian hard techno keys.
‘Session Love’ starts with an interesting sample imploring listeners to ‘do what you feel, when you feel like it.’ Things get seriously experimental on this one (emphasis on the ‘mental’) where hard gabber kicks reverb around a dreamy piano section. A kind of modern day bouncey techno that will go down well with Dutch and Scottish ravers!
We reach the end with ‘U Got Me’, a track that samples the Liquid Crystal tune of the same name, retwisting it into a quirky Footwork stepper’s anthem, laced with chopped amens, To keep things fresh as per the modus of this album, we get some Scots style hoover stabs (Ultrasonic, Q Tex), coupled with slamming cut up breakbeat action.
