Sunny & Deck Hussy-The Golden Oldies Picture Show EP

Breakbeat Hardcore maestros, Sunny & Deck Hussy drop some rave gold on the Breed imprint!

New Sunny & Deck Hussy tunes are always welcome and wow, these are good!!! We get a fast paced opener with ‘Baby Please (Call Me)’ which finds S&DH in 94/95 mode a la bouncey breaks, most uplifting piano and a rock ballad style vocal! This one has a nice stripped down feel that lets all the elements shine.

‘Pianos & Stabs’ is everything this blogger loves. The tempo is just right at what I refer to as ‘1992’ tempo. The breaks are nicely layered, the stabs manic with a nod to Ellis Dee’s ‘Rock To The Max’ and the vocal samples flow in unison with the beats nicely!!! The cool thing about modern hardcore is the ability to play around with conventions as is the case here. What we have here is essentially a 95 Happy Hardcore tune with a 92 Hardcore beat and of course it works!!!!

Time to push up the tempo with ‘Feelings’, a track in the style of Ramos & Supreme (the kind Slipmatt would cane back in the mid 90s). A mixture of ‘Crowd Control’ style riffs and eyes wide piano with loads of subtle things going on in the background (hoovers for instance).

‘Took My Love Away’ is the fast and furious closing track to another winning S&DH EP. Once again, the fundamentals come from arguably the two best eras of Hardcore. How about that insanely catchy stab pattern though? If you are trying to imagine, think of something along the lines of Psychotropic ‘Hypnosis.’ We get some dramatic Landlord stabs in the style of early Sub Base and a section of pure breakbeat to the close on this absolute scorcher of a tune. What a great way to finish up, its just a shame there isn’t more!!!!
