The Breakbeat Junkie vs DJP – For Promotional Use Only EP
Having already worked together numerous times in the past, The Breakbeat Junkie and DJP have once again been cooking up some tasty beats in their studios and just like all of their music that has gone before, they’ve served up another three mashups on their For Promotional Use Only EP that are absolute must-haves for any DJ or music lover who wants to lift the party atmosphere or mood skyward at a rapid rate of knots!
The first of the three tracks is a funky Breaks remix of Walter Murphy’s 1976 Disco classic A Fifth Of Beethoven, which is a track that has had its fair share of remix treatment in the past. To make their version stand out amongst the rest though, the duo made the inspired decision to bring Pamela Fernandez to the party and in particular, her knock-out vocal from her 1992 classic Kickin’ In The Beat, which gives the track the high-quality, uplifting and unique finish I’m sure they were aiming for.
The second track sees The Breakbeat Junkie and DJP put their magic touch to an instrumental version of Jimmy “Bo” Horne’s – Get Happy and after intensifying the Disco flavour and groove of that, they this time parachute in a bit of Black Eyed Peas and Soul II Soul to take us on another upbeat and enjoyable journey we might not have thought we were going on once the play button was pressed!
It’s another bumpin’ Disco jam that brings this fun-filled EP to a close and this time there’s a fusion going on between Lowrell’s – Mellow Mellow Right On, Jungle Brothers’ – I’ll House You and Loleatta Holloway’s – Love Sensation. Lowrell’s classic gets the rework treatment this time around and after they’d picked up the tempo and given it a much more solid feel, it acts as the perfect backdrop for the Jungle Brothers distinctive rhymes and Loleatta’s stunning vocal to create a jackin’ slice of Disco that’s gonna make you move whether you like it or not! Excellent work all round I’d say!
