The Chopshop Music – 10 Years (Free Album)

Chopshop Music is a Funk and Disco label that was born all the way back in 2009 by George Kelly (DJ Butcher), at first to create a platform for his own music, then opening things up to support fellow countrymen from those scenes, before making it a global party. As we’re now in 2019, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that George’s mighty fine label is now celebrating its 10th birthday and to celebrate that great achievement, he has called on a few of his friends to help compile a free 10 track album titled ’10 Years’, just to say thanks for all the amazing support over the last decade.

’10 Years’ is the perfect showcase of the style of music that has been the driving force behind the success of Chopshop Music. Quality is always assured and if Funk and Disco is your thing, you’ll find some of the very best examples of those sounds anywhere in the world on Chopshop, including the 10 new hotties found on its latest offering.

To begin the 10 track journey, George steps up himself with a cool and carnival flavoured remix of ‘Mas Que Nada’ by Sergio Mendes that sets the perfect tone for what else lies ahead. Next up is a remix by a regular to the ward, Dj XS. He’s taken George’s funky jam ‘Satisfaction’ and hit it up with a bit of Skee-Lo to create a party track to get down to and sing along to whilst doing so. ‘Too High’ by Tom Drummond follows and is by far one of the slickest funky reworks of Stevie Wonder we’ve ever heard!

Onwards to track 4 and we find a Discofied version of The Commodores classic ‘Brick House’ by HP Vince and it’s dancing room only when this one’s thrown down. Turning up the Disco heat even further and making sure you stick to your spot on the dancefloor comes Vaudafunk with his dazzler ‘Sagittarius’. Keeping things very much on a Disco tip, we find a sublime low-slung Nu-Disco groove on S.Nolla‘s remix of ‘I.C Love Affair’ by Gaz Nevada. Completing the selection of Disco delights is Dave Gerrard with his uplifting and horn-heavy tune ‘I Wanna Be With You’.

When you want to get things real funky, there’s one man you can always rely on to take things to the next level and that man is Ronny Hammond. Master of mashup wizardry, his offering ‘XCuse Me CAp WhiLe I RaP’ is another hot-stepping track to marvel at. Legendary turntablist DJ Agent 86 continues to spread the Funk like fire with his soulful and Hip Hop influenced weapon of choice ‘Party Don’t Stop’ and bringing this magical music ride to an end, Cordycep drops a downtempo funky Breaks rework of a familiar Public Enemy classic.

With plenty to love right here, do yourselves a favour and get stuck in!
