VA – Funk Originals with Remixes (Breakbeat Paradise Recordings)

Breakbeat Paradise Recordings are paying homage to the forefathers of Funk by bringing us a 7 track LP featuring 4 originals and 3 remixes from a select crew of European bands and producers whose lives have been greatly influenced by the legends and the music they made back in the early ’70s with Funk Originals with Remixes.

The 4 original tracks on Funk Originals with Remixes come from 4 bands who know all about delivering the funk! The first of those is by the 10-piece German band Grand Slam who have been doing their thang since 1985. Their track Get On Down sticks true to their P-Funk and Soul sound that they have become synonymous for over the years and is amplified by a legend of the P-Funk scene Gary “Mudbone” Cooper, who features on vocals and has produced the stone-cold cool track. The track was released back in 2017 but after its re-release in 2020, it’s still sounding as fresh as anything around currently.

Next up we head to Switzerland to get involved with Grand Mothers’ Funck‘s infectious offering The Dog (Throw Me A Bone). The track features on their album Take The Money, but has been given a tweak as it lands on BBP’s LP. This brass, breaks and vocal-led jam is sure to get the feet shuffling whether you’re in the home, in the garden or out and about town getting your daily exercise.

Following on is Stand Up by Greece based Nasa Funk feat. Georges Perin. Having already blogged quite a bit of top-class Funk from that part of the world in my time writing for LSM, I can safely say that this low-slung Funk joint is right up there with the best of em. Tons of groove from the band and Georges’ super smooth vocal make for a very pleasurable listening experience.

The last of the original tracks comes from the UK’s A Man About A Dog. Their Latin-infused Jazz-Funk jam Pollos is a heat source all of its own and the fever it’ll cause will infect the mind, body and soul of all those it comes into contact with it!

Kicking off the 3 remixes is Poland’s Beat Le Juice who drops a meaty yet smooth Glitch Hop remix on Get On Down by Grand Slam, Germany’s Jayl Funk peps up the power of The Dog by Grand Mothers’ Funck in fine style and B-Side and BBP co-owner BadboE team up and switch up Pollos by A Man About A Dog with a tropical flavoured Nu-Disco twist. All killer, no filler is exactly what we have here!
