A Catchup With BombStrikes

Because it’s been a while since I’ve brought you anything from one of the best and most reliable Funk labels on planet earth, here’s a fairly recent and superb trio of releases that have rolled off the production line over at BombStrikes!

Kicking things off is the most recent instalment of BombStrikes incredible Funk N’ Beats compilation series and guest curation duties for volume nine this time landed at the door of edit specialist and turntable wizard Jim Sharp.

Jim’s extensive knowledge of the music world is put to great use on volume nine and every single one of the 22 tracks on the comp will leave you feeling like you really ought to have another listen to that one. Perfectly blending the current with classics and dropping in a few of those over-looked gems, you can expect to hear music from Hip Hop legends such as Stetsasonic, Daddy-O and Ugly Duckling, new music from Jim himself and further tracks from Lack Of Afro, The Allergies, Marc Hype & Jim Dunlop, Kraak & Smaak and Daddy O amongst many others. The track of the comp surely has to go to what was surely one of the best pieces of music to land in 2021, that being The Bamboos’ sensational cover of Ride On Time by Black Box. Finishing the comp is a classy mix of all the tracks from Jim, so you will get to hear your favourites again if you hang tight.

At the beginning of December, Shake Loves You increased global temperatures by dropping two new peak-time Disco heaters on an EP type release. Just A Little Time and Gonna Work Out Fine are a pair of spirit-lifting, groove-driven, shoe-melting 4-to-the-floor belters and if that’s how you like your music to sound, you should get very excited about checking them out!

Mid-December and X-Ray Ted rocked up with the Funk-fueled party-rocker Get Out The House feat. Baby Bam from the Jungle Brothers. Baby Bam’s prowess on the mic is on point as ever and together with X-Ray Ted’s excellent production which brings together the freshest licks of brass and guitar, well-crafted and incredibly infectious drums and a groovin’ bassline, they’ve cooked up one of those rare treats you’ll find yourself continuously feasting on! There are two versions of this track, one dirty, one clean, so choose wisely if young ears are present!

All of the music can be found on BombStrikes Bandcamp link below and when you hit it, you’ll also be met with a few other releases from Kenny Beeper & SwimINC, The Niceguys and a remix EP of Dubra & PM2THEAM’s track Magic. Plenty to dig through and plenty to enjoy.
