A-Sides-I Know Everything EP

The hard working team at Kniteforce present another slice of early hardcore magic with A-Sides’ ‘I Know Everything EP’

In recent years most of us would know A Sides as a top DnB producer. What this writer didn’t know or rather remember was A Sides’ early excursions into breakbeat hardcore. He made an appearance on the Kaos Theory 2 album with a track called ‘Burn Cali Weed.’ But the tunes in question here ae from a label called Boombastic Plastic and we are talking about some seriously good hardcore and early jungle.

Not to keep rambling but A-Sides was part of a duo known as Citadel Of Kaos and at least one of the tracks on this 3 track EP sounds very much like a Citadel Of Kaos tune. So let’s start with the title track with its battling riffs and smooth breaks. On top of those rather excellent breakbeats and duelling riffs is a mid section of sliding hoovers sounding like one of the many weapons in the record crates of Ellis Dee.

‘Earthquake’ (Remix) has the mystical vibe of early jungle with the melodic grace of a certain strain of Hardcore often played at Labyrinth, Dalston Lane. Part intelligent Jungle a la Moving Shadow and part deep melodic Basement style hardcore.

‘Alpha 2’ opens with lush keys like Mr Fingers at plus 8. Those wonderful pianos and kicks are soon joined by a snappy break and a nice mid section of deep, spooky keys. Its Techno, Hardcore and even a bit of early DnB all rolled into one exceptional tune. You can hear the blueprint for countless DnB classics in this showcase of A-Side’s early work.
