With its newest compilation album ‘Beats and Pieces Vol.1’, Big Fat Mama Beats has firmly established itself as one of the top Breakbeat labels on the planet, if it hasn’t already in some peoples opinions. With a safe house already stacked to the nines with some serious Breakbeat weaponry, the imprints brand new album adds another 20 original tracks that will bolster its arsenal considerably!
With a wide variation in Breakbeat styles and tempos from a cast of music producers that takes us from rookie to veteran, one thing remains a constant throughout the whole album and that is the quality of the music that is to be found. With so much wholesome goodness to be found, picking a few highlights from this well-crafted album minimix by Mr Rich is quite a task! However, a few stand out tracks for me amongst all of the heavyweight business that is being thrown down include Pulpfusion‘s ‘Lame’ which is a million miles from that! New kid on the bloc Faist hits us with the funkiest of grooves and booty-shakin’ beats on ‘Swung’ while One Dead Jedi‘s remix of ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ really sets the album and my mind alight with its frenetic and addictive drums. Label bossman Wiccatron teams up with Rory Hoy on ‘Rockin’ It’ and the duo is doing just that with their Big Beat groover. South African Sonale delivers a top Nu-Skool party vibin’ slice of Breaks on ‘Fold your Mind’ and StuC4C draws on old-skool influences for his mammoth Acid Breaks rocker ‘Dissin You’.
We highly recommend taking the time (if you have it) to sit down and get to know the whole of this album because we promise you that you will be rewarded every step of the way!
