Canadian true-school Hip Hop duo Dragon Fli Empire deliver two stone-cold cool tracks that could not be more perfect to kick back to on a hot summers day. The music on offer is the first of several projects that will be released to depict their journey as a crew over a nearly two-decade period and will culminate in 2022 when the duo gets to celebrate their 20th anniversary.
On their new release, the two tracks represent their strong French connection that has been built on the back of their music being released by their good friend Djar One on his legendary Beats House Records imprint. The first track ‘To Be Continued’ sees the duo team up with French trumpet player Alix Laran on a smooth and jazzy number where Teekay contemplates the temptations of street life over sturdy boom-bap drums, softened piano and Alix’s trumpet, that is sparingly used, to begin with, before a show-stopping solo towards the end of the track. ‘Inspiration’ is the second track and this time the duo join forces with French emcee Gassam aka GAS and singer Luc Nyamé-Siliki. A lighter kick to the drums and a sunnier feel is what we’re served on this on as Teekay and GAS trade energetic bars in their native tongues and Luc demonstrates his vocal qualities with a super-smooth chorus.
