El Bomba & Roast Beatz – Party Over Here EP (Cuttin’ It Fine)

Exeter based El Bomba and Cuttin’ It Fine boss Roast Beatz have teamed up to bring us a four-track EP that for me is right up there as one of the best releases the label has on its book thus far, which is a bold statement to make when taking into account its mightily impressive back catalogue. The funky flavour of their “Party Over Here” EP has got the ward fired up and we have a very good feeling it’ll do the same for some of you too.

With two sampletastic tracks apiece on their funky midtempo Breaks led EP, it’s El Bomba’s who steps up first with “Take A Break”, which is a cut and paste style jam that brings together a myriad of classic Funk and Hip Hop samples for that guaranteed hit of nostalgia. “Bronco Funk” is the second track from El Bomba and this one’s built on a solid and razor-sharp drum break with a familiar guitar hook giving it its funky flavour and a subtle yet effective bassline that you feel if you turn that dial skyward.

If you’ve been following LSM for a good while, you’ll already know that Roast Beatz is only here to deliver the finest cuts of Funk just like he always does. “Party Over Here” is the first of his two tracks and fusing tried and tested dancefloor elements with brass licks, the coolest groove and familiar Hip Hop samples, he serves up an irresistable joint that’s perfect for those backyard shindigs. Stepping things up, Roast Beatz second track “Get On Down” is aimed firmly at the dancefloor. A souped-up bassline is joined by a hefty kick from the drums, more brassy goodness and another hit of classic Hip Hop acapellas to make sure the nostalgia wave is ridden right to the very end of this excellent EP.
