Fort Knox Five‘s 50th edition of their truly amazing ‘Funk The World’ mix series is here! It does however come at a bittersweet time for the guys. The sweetness obviously comes from the fact they’ve hit the big 5-0 on the mix front and the fact it’s packed with another classy selection of their very favourite funky tracks new and old from all around the world.
The bitter side of things comes with the very sad news of the passing of Mustafa Akbar, a longtime collaborator, dear friend and member of the Fort Knox Five family. I didn’t know Mustafa myself, neither have I met him, but I have heard him sing on many tracks and happy is how I’ve always felt when he’s blasting out positive vibes in his infectious delivery. The music world has indeed lost another gem. I’m sure the Fort Knox Five guys have dedicated their new mix somewhere along the way to Mustafa and if they have, what a fitting tribute it is.
