Haynesy feat DJ Jabbathakut – The Reworks EP (Cuttin’ It Fine)

Cuttin’ It Fine Records is all about top-quality music and while it continues to support some of the more familiar names of the party Breaks scene, it’s only too happy to bring us music by producers who are new or are on the rise in the scene like Hip Hop producer Haynesy, who has teamed up with legendary turntablist DJ Jabbathakut (B-Line Recordings) on his 5 track The Reworks EP. On his new EP, Haynesy’s slick and crisp production skills that deliver a classic sound whilst maintaining a current vibe are used to full effect on reworks of 5 Hip Hop classics with DJ Jabbathakut providing the tightest cuts and scratches.

The first of those reworks sees DJ Jabbathakut get down to business early-doors with Haynesy providing a cool and funky 100bpm makeover of Whodini’s 1985 classic Big Mouth. Fresh horns and guitar licks and a decent kick from the drums will have the head-nodders signalling their appreciation. Taking things up to 110bpm, the energy levels rise and the drums kick that bit harder on Haynesy’s classic boom bap rework of Let The Rhythm Hit by Eric B & Rakim with Jabbathakut nailin’ it once again.

Things drop to a stately 102bpm on the next rework, but don’t let that fool you because the dynamic duo’s work on Root Down by the Beastie Boys is a big-hitter and its presence will be felt! Easily one of the best Beastie’s reworks we’ve heard. At break-neck speed, we hit 116bpm with a filthy bassline, funky guitar hook and those impressive cuts and scratches applied to Set It Off by Big Daddy Kane that in turn creates a party-vibe that’ll get your body poppin’! Now you’re warmed up, it’s time to get those shufflin’ feet steppin’ quick time to the final rework, which is a 125bpm spin on the Jungle Brothers’ infamous classic I’ll House You. Keeping the old-skool House essence, this Funky Breaks rework is has got it all goin’ on! No party should ever be without this one.

This is our first introduction to Haynesy and DJ Jabbathakut and if these guys team up again, we’ll be making sure to let you know.
