Omegaman – Under The Covers EP (Fort Knox Recordings)

Whilst Ska isn’t a style of music we normally share here on the blog, the two outstanding covers of a couple of late ’70s classics on Omegaman’s sublime Under The Covers EP are so fresh, so uplifting and so good, they simply cannot be ignored!

As with much of his music, Omegaman has once again teamed up some incredibly talented musicians and vocalists to reinterpret one instantly recognisable classic and one lesser-known classic for his new EP. First up is the charming and soul-nourishing cover of A Message To You Rudy by The Specials that has been beautifully re-imagined by several artists including The Skatards on brass and the sweet sounds of Lucy Vella on vocals. Just a few seconds of this one and you’ll love it forever!

The second cover sees Omegaman team up with legendary vocalist from Melbourne Ska Orchestra and The Allniters, Patou, and together they bring a surf-n-Ska kind of vibe to their upbeat twist on the relatively obscure If You Leave Me (Can I Come Too?) by Australian New Wave band Mental As Anything. Although not as familiar as the first cover, this one will still charm its way into your life like the first one has.
