Phuture Assassins-Babylon Newspaper EP

A triumphant return for Hardcore/Jungle original, the Phuture Assassins on Kniteforce

Most famous for the massive ‘Future Sound’ on Suburban Base Records, Phuture Assassins return to vinyl via Kniteforce with the ‘Babylon Newspaper EP.’

What can I say about ‘Can’t Kill The King?’ I must have listened to it about 40 plus times since first hearing it a day or two ago! The dub reggae style of Phuture Assassins is ever present with a bit of ‘oughts Dubstep sewed into the breakbeats. As those sublime dubby breaks kick in, get ready for a huge slice of dreamy early 80s reggae that will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck!!!!

‘The Tempest Vibe’ has all the tools to make an oldskool rave addict smile from ear to ear. Chipmunk rap vocals, Ragga style subs, bleeps and oh what pianos!!!! This track feels and sounds just like those Sub Base tunes from 91/92

‘Babylon Newspaper’ on the other hand feels like a tune made for Kniteforce featuring the ‘Six Days’ style break with a rolling amen and a whopper of a bassline! This is 92 Hardcore Jungle made by a true veteran and legend who knows where everything should go. Cut up reggae samples, Belgium influenced stabs and perfectly placed vocals equals the never bettered original rave sound done right!

‘Controlled by Remote’ starts with a Noam Chomsky sample underpinned by Lee ‘scratch’ Perry style rhythms before stacking up the soundsystem with chunky breaks, melodic sitars and the refrain ‘Babylon newspaper say so…’ While I don’t possess the linguistic skills of Mr Chomsky, I will do my best job of describing a powerful fusion of dub reggae and Hardcore Jungle. The beauty of tunes like this is how well the slow skank of soundsytem dub is transposed with breakbeats. The machines vibe with the organic sounds without any conflict at all, everything fits and sounds truly amazing!!!
