Homegrown is a club night and radio show that is run by Cumbrian duo Jamie Graham and Ian Chatfield. Their club night has been running since 2005 and as well and serving up a dancefloor-filling blend of Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, Reggae, Breaks and Drum and Bass themselves, they’ve also warmed up for legendary artists such as DJ Yoda, Scratch Perverts, Freestylers, Craig Charles and Lo-Fidelity Allstars to name just a few.
On their Soundcloud page, you can find a cracking selection of mixes from Jamie and Ian spanning the last 5 or so years that now includes mixes from their new Safe & Sound series that they started just as the lockdown kicked in here in the UK. With clubs being forced to shut their doors, they wanted to bring as much positivity to peoples lives as they could and with no club nights to prepare for, what better way to use the power of music.
After taking on the first 4 mixes themselves, Jamie and Ian chose to invite fellow DJ’s to keep the positivity flowing by providing guest mixes that are first aired after their radio show – which is every Saturday afternoon from 4pm -6pm on BUMS.Live (Barrow Underground Music Society). The first 2 guest mixes came from DJ Hiphoppapotamus and Andy Buchan and the latest one comes from Gramophone Soul. As we already know from blogging several of his mixtapes in the past, Gramophone Soul always serves up the funky goodness with side orders of Hip Hop, Soul and Reggae and in his mix for Homegrown, there’s of that to be heard!
