The Allergies – Push On

It’s just under a year ago now that I blogged The Allergies debut album ‘As We Do Our Thing‘ and after buying it on CD at that time, I can confirm that it has not left my car since the day it went in. Here to give that album a well deserved rest though is their brand new album ‘Push On‘ that once again demonstrates the production brilliance of DJ Moneyshot and Rackabeat.

The duo’s ability to take classic sounds and reshape them for the modern age is what makes their vintage Funk sound so damn addictive. ‘Push On’ opens up with a cool, warm and welcoming intro, but from then on the doors are flung open and the remaining 13 tracks are there for the taking. Funk is the glue that binds the album together but you’ll also get Psych, Northern Soul, and Boogie influences to.

Hip Hop also plays a star role on this incredible album and The Allergies have called on there great friend, Andy Cooper (Ugly Duckling), to lay down rhymes over 4 of their tracks. Andy and The Allergies is a match made in heaven and if you want to experience this winning combo fully, wait till you check out ‘Buzzsaw’. Also joining The Allergies on ‘Remedy’ is another lyrical genius, veteran MC, Dr Syntax (The Mouse Outfit, Foreign Beggars) and it’s a ‘win win’ yet again on the Funky Hip Hop side of things.

I’d love to be able to pick out a few highlights for you to check out, but the reality of the situation is that all the tracks are just as good as the others, meaning that it is impossible to pick a favourite. I’ve even listened to the whole album several times and all I do is smile throughout. If you have a fave, answers on a postcard please. Is this the best album of 2017? It could very well be.

‘Push On’ is available to buy digitally, on CD and on 12″ vinyl. To find your preference, hit the link below.
