Big Fat Mama Beats’ “Funk Bananas” compilation series makes its return and volume 4 features another fine selection of Breakbeat that will cover all your requirements, come what may, and the excellent minimix put together by Mister Rich showcases all 12 tracks perfectly!
Mister Rich kicks off his minimix with the two lowest tempo tracks on the album, which means we’re met with a couple of real 110bpm beauties from the get-go. The first of those is the hazy, almost psychedelic vibe of “Do You Love Me” by Sir-Vere that’ll help slow your roll for a moment. Mr Bristow‘s dubby 110 jam “The Body Roll” is very much about Bass, Breaks and bongos and an interesting and entertaining selection of spoken word samples.
Picking up the pace and intensity comes the midrange heaters from the likes of Pecoe and his superb brass, guitar and groove ladened “Funky Individual” and The Funk Philosopher who brings swinging horns and a gritty bassline to his deep roller “A Little Party”.
Following on are the tracks you’re most likely to hear blasting out of sound systems during the peak-time hours. B.U.U.G‘s rave-infused slab of Acid Breaks will certainly have shoes smokin’ as the shufflers get to it on the floor just like Chubby Robots funky and chunky remix of “Space Time” by Adrenalinez and label boss Wiccatron‘s percussive and bass-heavy “FunkDribble” will do too. With just over half of the music on the album covered, I can assure you that the remaining tracks all match up to the sam high-standards as those mentioned, so you get plenty of bang for your buck with this one!

To further celebrate the release of “Funk Bananas Vol 4”, Big Fat Mama Beats invited Kid Breaks and The Funk Philosopher to drop an hour guest mix each on its “BFMB & Bootlegs” radio show. Rising star of the Breakbeat scene, Kid Breaks, brilliantly blends classic and more recent Nu-Breaks tracks and finishes with rousing blast of DnB while The Funk Philosopher drops a meaty selction of midtempo Breaks that are fueled by Funk! Both mixes are ripe for a rinsing, so do the right thing and play them loud.
