V/A – Funk Butter Volume 1 (Cuttin’ It Fine)

Cuttin’ It Fine’s latest release sees the Bournemouth based imprint deliver the first volume in a new EP style series titled Funk Butter. The new series will bring us tracks that churn together Funk, Disco and a little bit of Hip Hop to produce a sweet audio cream that’s moreish, to say the least! With a four-track setup to volume 1 and future volumes I’m sure, it’s label stalwarts Frankee More, Pecoe and Mr Fitz and label boss Roast Beatz who are supplying us with the sounds that offer a little something for everyone, due to the differing levels of intensity and range of bpm.

It’s Frankee More who inaugurates the Funk Butter series and he sets us up with an extremely easy-going and silky-smooth downtempo Breaks re-edit of DeBarge‘s classic I Like It. The drums are particularly on point and barbeque party ready it is! Pecoe picks up the pace next with his blend of horns, bongos, elements of The Sisters Love and Roy Ayers and a bumping and infectious beat in his summery offering Sunshine Love.

Ladened with horns and sharp reworked drums, Mr Fitz serves up his smouldering and soulful Sharon’s Land, which is his take on Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings classic This Land Is Your Land with added Wu-Tang Clan to keep those heads noddin’ all the way the end. Roast Beatz drops one of tried and tested party-starters to bring volume 1 to an end and gives us Whoomp Times, which is his Disco fuelled mashup of Chic and Tag Team. If you’ve not let loose to this groove machine before, now is your time!
