We’re always happy to have Scour Records pop back onto the ward because we know that when it does, great music is a-comin’! That great music this time comes from UK Glitch Hop producer Vancara and 4 high-calibre originals found on his brilliant Railroad EP that focuses on the cooler side of the genre rather than the side that demolishes dancefloors.
Vancara’s unique blend of funk, blues and jazz that he combines with melodic chord progressions, finely-tuned basslines and piano solos has been showcased once before on the esteemed imprint, when he teamed up with Bright Idea on their track Curry Sauce on Scour’s Freemixed Nuts Vol. 6. On this occasion though, the spotlight is solely focused on his slick production skills which, as you’re about to hear, are of the very highest order!
So, with the ballast spread, the sleepers in place and the shiny new rails laid, it’s the title track of the EP that gets our journey underway with a liquid Glitch vibe and a strong blues influence that creates a sound to make it equally adept as a party-warmer or backyard-chiller. On the second track Going East, the sunshine-times remain as we’re dealt licks of brass, rollin’ chunky beats and bassline and Vancara’s superb piano playing. The good-time feels keep flowing as the coolest track on the EP City Street Jam rocks up and lets us know everything is going to be alright. A soothing bassline is accompanied by equally soothing brass and piano and the result is a track that just makes you smile. Disco Balls wraps things up and should you feel the need to get energetic, this one’s got the groove that’ll make you move! There’s more bite to the bassline on this uptempo number and because the beats are smacking that bit harder, sitting down is something you’ll find you’ll want to do less the more the track plays. As far as making your debut on label goes, Vancara has absolutely nailed it!
